More Spring Illustrations to Celebrate the Season

Things are a bit quiet here at the studio this week. People are taking time off for the Holidays again. So, I took some time to unearth a few of my Spring illustrations to celebrate the season with you…

Spring Illustration | Flower

I found this elegant little drawing of a flower in my files. It reminds me of the early botanical illustrations from the 19th century. Not sure of the flower species, probably done for Rodale press or Garden Design magazine.

Here is a symbol of fertility for the Season. I drew this happy fellow for an ad I ran in the Workbook, many moons ago.

An illustration I made, also for a Workbook ad. While it may suggest urban renewal, I was thinking ‘Flower Power!’ when I came up with the concept. This is the original b&w art that I made first. I later created the colorized background art layer for the ad.

I took a photo of this Iris flower in my yard to create this paean to Spring. It is a rather complicated drawing, with lots of detail. It ran in the (now defunct) Black Book artists directory of Photography and Illustration. The Black Book was the top directory for quite some time.

Finally, this is an illustration I made for the Reader’s Digest. There is an actual fountain like this somewhere in the Midwest, I believe. The challenge here was to render the fountain spray convincingly. The fountain itself has a nice symmetry that I tried to capture in my rendering.

Wishing you all a Jubilant Holiday and Spring!
