Illustrations for a Mystery Series

I recently visited the island of Aruba with my wife, to celebrate our anniversary. While there, I was able to fit in a good book,”The Ruby in the Smoke”, by young readers author Philip Pullman.

Several years ago, I was asked to create a collection of cover illustrations for some of Mr. Pullman’s titles. These were produced for The Sally Lockhart Mystery series…

“The Ruby in the Smoke”, the volume I read… it contained lots of memorable characters, plot twists, and a fascinating description of the impact of opium within the context of the Victorian world. An excellent read.

These were all done using watercolors and colored pencils, with the last step being the application of pen-and-ink over all. I had fun doing them, and was glad to be a part of this terrific series of books.

  1. Can I simply just say what a comfort to uncover a person that really knows what they are discussing on the internet.
You actually realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
More and more people have to check this out and understand
this side of the story. I can’t believe you are not more
popular given that you certainly possess the gift.
