A Patti Smith Tee Shirt

Following on from my previous post, Dear Reader,...Last summer, I received an email from Patti Smith's tour manager from Europe. He wondered if I might consider producing a portrait of Patti in the Wall Street Journal hedcut style that I had introduced to the paper some years ago. Having admired her work, and witnessed her rise to fame, naturally I was drawn to the project. I was to work from the iconic Robert Mapplethorpe photograph -- a photo-image so strong, I knew it would be a pleasure to work with. Here is the photo...The end-product was a screen-printed illustration of Patti emblazoned on garments de couture, offered as souvenirs of her performances. I still have not received my own XXL (part of the deal), but, here is the illustration...p.s.: I recommend to the reader a New Yorker piece going back about a year; an autobiographical account written by Patti about her love of books. It's an insightful read into the life of an artist.
