Sprouls Exhibit — the Last Word
This is the last installment covering my gallery exhibit last summer.
It has been too long since my last post, Dear Reader. There are many reasons why. I’ll explain later.
As the exhibit was closing, we decided to have a gathering of writers and poets in the gallery space. The event was well-attended, about 25-30 people in all. The assignment: to view the show and write about it.
My wife is a poet, and she composed a fitting piece to start us off. Here she is reading at the podium…
This is her poem:
— Rosemarie Sonye Sprouls
I made a portrait of this fair lady many years ago. Here it is:
I have made illustrations of two other poets you may have heard of…
Above, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, created for The Readers Digest. Also for the Digest, Edna St. Vincent Millay:
But, I digress… Back at the gallery, we were having a poetry reading. The next essay was penned by a Tryon neighbor, Monica Jones:
The next two poems are from poet friends who graced us with their thoughtful words:
I’m very grateful to all the people who made the exhibit such a success. It was quite an honor.
As to why I’ve been absent in posting the last couple of months, there is the traumatic event that Hurricane Helene was for this area of Western North Carolina for one. My town, Tryon, was hit like most, and the devastation nearby is still being felt today. Another factoid which pales in comparison is that, several weeks ago, I got kicked off of Facebook. Apparently, someone hacked into my account and impersonated me. They proceeded to offend the Facebook gods, who removed me from the service! You may now find me on Instagram, strangely, and the other usual places on line.
Thank You for reading and viewing my blog. In closing, I leave you with my finished, latest self-portrait. The original hung in te show last summer, but I have since re-worked and, hopefully, refined the illustration. With a tip of my chapeau to Rembrandt…
