Valentine's Day

heart-bas~spotIt's that time again --- Love is in the air! I would also say that it's time to be grateful that Old Man Winter will be shuffling off soon. I'm pretty much done with the coldest, darkest season. Valentine's Day, for me, signals the imminence of Spring, and the resurgence of Romance!loversThe above done for a print ad in the early nineties.I created the following two images for The Wall Street Journal...cupidLots of crazy patterns going on here in this portrayal of Cupid! I am a big fan of the illustrator, Elliott Banfield, and "borrowed" a technique from him --- using a custom-made template to create a repeating pattern for the background. This work is signed in the lower left-hand corner.Tristan and IsoldeAn opera production of Tristan and Isolde was in town, so the paper had to cover it......and, Lest we forget the real first cause and main generator for the occasion...sprouls-heartThis image of the human heart was made for a pharmaceutical campaign. It is quite long leap of the imagination to arrive at the graphic icon we all recognize. Below, a beautiful piece of art made by my daughter when she was 3 years old. It hangs over my desk today.heart-bas
