Working for The Phone Company, in Canada
Here's the story of how I once found myself working for the phone company, in Canada.A couple of years after I quit my day job as Head Illustrator at The Wall Street Journal, I received a call from an advertising agency in Canada called Cossette. They flew me up to Montreal so we could meet. I landed a major illustration job, creating art for the print side of a campaign named “Fables”.I’m posting this because my favorite artist’s directory, The Workbook, features my art for this campaign on their homepage this week. It’s quite an honor. So, I’ve dug up some illustrations not before seen on this blog. Here we go…
Drawing Ad Illustrations | Working for The Phone Company, in Canada
I loved drawing the rabbit character, as he had a big personality. The most hapless of the creatures, he was also the most charismatic, as you’ll see…The series basically takes place in an office environment, with the characters portraying different animals. You can view a video clip of the commercial film version here… It’s pretty great:As you can see, the King of the Jungle plays the “Boss”. Here is my illustration of him:
I did this art in two pieces, as I had to design the art as a fold-out piece. It took a bit of thought!
Here is a typical ad from this campaign using my illustrations:
Here is a detail…
The illustration on the Workbook home page is this one:
And finally, as to that rabbit…
Here he is having a goofy good time, a ‘Happy Ending’. The ad’s illustrations had black-and-white versions that ran in newspapers. This was one of them. One more of the rabbit, to end this post…"All’s Well, that Ends Well!"
