Architectural & Character Illustrations for National Geographic

In this post, I’ll share with you an assignment I worked on providing illustrations for National Geographic.It was an interesting project that combined architectural and animal character illustration. I had fun with it.

An Architectural Illustration for National Geographic

The lead illustration was this image of the Capitol building in Washington. Architectural illustration like this can be fairly demanding. The details have to be captured with accuracy. Even the trees framing the building had to be carefully drawn so as not to distract from the central focal point.

Animal Character Illustrations for National Geographic

Next, the fun part. I rendered these interesting creatures in true WSJ style. They were for a couple of television programs that National Geographic was launching for kids. It was a challenge getting the creatures to look expressive.The scales on the lizard character were especially demanding!
