Bike, Automotive, Locomotion & Ship Illustrations

This time, a handful of my drawings of bike, automotive, locomotion & ship illustrations. These machines require quite a bit of exacting detail.

Executive with motorcycle

Above, an illustration published in WORTH magazine. This gent wanted to pose with his big ride. You can see what I mean about the detail I mentioned. This drawing took a while to complete! Next, a simpler drawing of a man in his vehicle…

Hollywood Motorist

The above image was, I believe, commissioned by Variety magazine. Looks like a film director to me. Can you identify this stylish motorist?

1938 Alvis Automobile

I made the above illustration for my barrister friend in Ireland. This is a motorcar he owns. I took a ride in it several years ago. A sweet , historic piece of 20th-century engineering. I got especially involved in rendering the paint, and making it shine!

Tall Ship

The illustration above was originally created as a black-and-white image. It was commissioned by a restaurant for use on its menu. I thought it would look impressive in color, so I generated a colored background to underlie the line art.

Finally, A double-page spread from the pages of The Wall Street Journal. Here is how it looked in the Journal:

Spread from the WSJ

This spread ran in the then new Section Two of the paper. Section Two was a great opportunity for us illustrators. Suddenly, we were freed from the constraints of half-column and single-column formats. I was able to really expand and scale up my illustration offerings. Here is the image of modern engines pulling their cars…

Santa Fe Train

I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief survey of my work. More next time… stay tuned!
