New Year, 2023
Here we are again, at the beginning of a New Year!
It was surely a cold Christmas this past year. Especially in frigid Upstate New York. Even in North Carolina, where I am, we had temperatures in the teens.
Shafer Wine Sketch
On December 29th, my Wife and I hosted a party, the first in a few years. A fine feast was laid out, and about twenty guests ate and drank a good deal of wine!
Bagpipes!
I recently learned that my bagpiping services were requested for the Tryon New Year’s Eve ‘Ball-Drop’ at 10 pm on NYE (Here in Tryon, people like to turn in early!). Perhaps I’ll let you know how it went in a subsequent post…
Below is an early illustration I created for a New Year’s gala somewhere in Texas…
Bubbly
My office-mate, Barbara Kelley and I posed for this piece while I still worked at The Wall Street Journal. Note the background texture (Thank You, Elliott Banfield). I made a template of plastic to capture the repeating pattern. Kind of art-deco in style, this one.

Let the party begin…
Party Animals
Of course, we’ll try not to let things get out of hand, because the new year is about to be born…
2023
Here is wishing my readers and viewers a Wonderful New Year. Cheers!
