Here is another installment in the blog covering the years I worked at The Wall Street Journal, in the 1980’s…

Telescopes

Believe or not, this illustration appear in The Journal as a one-column piece— so intricate! We are talking a little larger than 2.25” across.

WSJ Hudcut

I can do one better: this portrait of Bowler Glenn Alyson appear on Page One as a half-column hedcut - tiny!

Lula

Speak of the hedcut portrait, the above example is a very young activist that become the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, or “Lula”. He attracted The Journal’s attention a long time ago!

Derek

Anyone remember the move “Ten”? I got to draw the actor Bo Derek, sporting those notorious ‘Corn-Rows’. The hair-style became a phenom, if briefly! Naturally, The Wall Street Journal cover it…

Coarse Fisherman

I leave you with this stunning miniature drawling of a Coarse Fisherman, some where in Merry England. I sign it in the lower left corner — my seal approval!

I wish You All a Satisfying Thanksgiving Feast! … Until next time.
