Old Castle/Fortress
A Cathedral looking like it could be located in France. The looseness of this drawing suggests that it was done in a hurry, likely on deadline. We often were working under pressure— the nature of the biz.

Above a Titan of Industry, judging from the pose! This illustration was a One-column-wide image in the paper.

This looks to me like an early piece. I confess to getting carried away with rendering this model’s hair! There is a visual conflict between the pointillistic face and the strongly linear hair. The hair detail is impressive, even to me! I hope you’re enjoying this blog tracking my progress at The WSJ. More next time…
